•1. What did I work on with my composition today?
•2. What did I accomplish today?
•3. What am I finding most difficult?
•4 What am I going to work on next week?
Week One - Today i decided to pick guitar and piano and drums for my composition and i am going to compose music more instrumental pop. I chose this style because i feel comfortable with the instruments used with pop and i listen to pop artists such as Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand and Lightning Seeds.
Week Two - Today I've been working on and accomplished my chord progression on piano to become fluent at it and written the notes on Sibelius 7. I have also started to learn my guitar chord progression but i'm finding moving my fingers to the right chords really difficult, to improve i'm going to start moving to my chords on guitar really slowly and progress faster.
Week Three - Today i worked on and was able to accomplish my chord progression for my piano and structure. i found playing with both hands most difficult and for next week i'am going to improve by recording the chord progression and playing the other notes with one hand.
Week Four - Today i have been working on my second instrument guitar chord progression to come in with my piano and i have been able to complete it, the F chord is what i found most difficult so i have been doing all the other chords in time with the piano and then later on add in the F chord.
Week Five - I have been successfully able to record my guitar chords to merge with my piano chords for my opening to my composition. i used the chords C, F, G, F. on the guitar. what i found most difficult was figuring out what could come next in my composition.
Week Six - In today's lesson i have decided to use c scale to help come up with my tune to my composition, i am finding making a unique tune out of c scale quite difficult to improve on this I'm practising at home i have also accomplished my harmonic progression and next I'm going to start on my melody.
Week Seven - Today i worked on a tune from the c scale and i am practising to perfect it. I Am finding being flexible with guitar quite difficult as I'm new to guitar and at home i will practise more and more to become more comfortable with guitar.
Week Eight - I have now recorded my c scale tune and added it on loop to my composition, next week i am going to re-record my piano and guitar onto a new ipad and i am going to develop my strumming pattern for guitar.
Week Nine - This week i have re-recorded my piano and practised my strumming pattern for guitar, i have found the strumming pattern and going from C to F to G difficult, to overcome this i am going to practise more at home.
Week Ten - Since last week i have decided to use the garage band acoustic guitar for my CFGF chord strumming pattern. i found re-recording everything in time most difficult.
Week Eleven - I have been becoming fluent with guitar chords, the hardest and newest chord i have been practising is the B chord. The C chord is the hardest to move to whilst strumming and i have been practising this with miss harris.
Week Twelve - Today i trimmed my composition to start making another rhythm and chord progression in an A minor scale to make a A B A scheme. i am also thinking about my melody for my composition.
Week Thirteen - Today i used my new chord progression of A minor, E minor first inversion, D minor first inversion and F major in my composition and practised to perfect it. i found switching from E minor first inversion to D minor first inversion most difficult and to help i have just practised switching those two chords.
Week Fourteen - I have put my B chord progression onto my composition and added drums to it. I am now working on creating a melody for the A section and the B section. I find it most difficult to create melodies as I'm not sure if it sounds good or not.
Week Fifthteen - Today i created a melody for my A section but it turned out to work better in my B section, i find making a melody for my A section the hardest.
Week Sixteen - This lesson I have developed my melody in my b section and within my melody I created an A, A, B, A structure. Next lesson I will create a melody for my A section. I found the timing and accuracy difficult but the composing I found less difficult.
Week Seventeen - This lesson i tidied up my composition and improved on my second A section and edited my second A section ostinato.
Week Eighteen - Today i made my A section melody and spent the lesson putting it in time and clearing up places where it didn't sound right. i found coming up with my third part of the melody hardest and next lesson i am going to improve my composition and make my A section flow smoothly to my B section.
Week Nineteen - I have finished my composition and the last thing i have to do is put my A section melody in time with my ostinato audio recording. to do this i will have to edit in my audio recording instead and add a chord to play at the end of my composition.
Week Twenty - I have to stretch my composition to 2 minutes 30 seconds.
Week Twenty-One - Tiding up last pieces of my composition at the end.
Week Twenty-Two - My composition has finally finished and has a duration of 2 minutes 30 seconds. i added last chords at the beginning to start off the composition, F,C,G,D.
Week Twenty-Three - I have finished my composition.
Evaluation
What are the strengths of your composition?
. My composition has a clear melody and a good use of structure.
. My composition is in ternary form.
. Good timing and quantising of some instruments.
. I made sure i had two chord progressions in my piece to accentuate the structure.
. I wanted to create a strong rhythm to support the texture of the composition.
. I feel like i created a good, catchy melody.
What areas do you feel need developing more?
. There was a small part that was out of time that I could have quantised better.
. Different variety of instruments.
. I could have developed it a bit more so that it changed key, as it got a bit too repetitive.
. I could have listened to more music from the genre to develop more ideas to my composition.
How does it fit the style intended? (See above for the style you were aiming for).
. The chord progression fits the style of pop because it is simple and repetitive.
. The drum pattern is originally more in the style of indie however i developed it to sound more pop with the use of a handclap.
. The riff suits pop because i used piano.
